custom books

Once I learned to, what I call, "properly" make a round back spine book, I made some for other people to use. All three of these were to be used in different ways.

BOBBY'S BOOK

He wanted a book he could take notes in and add ideas for his guitar builds. It features his logo cut into the cover and  covered in two colours of book cloth. His only request was the book be in portrait orientation and of a standard size. The logo is coloured in with gold acrylic paint. I learned ALOT about how deep and how intricate something of this sort could be, when using book cloth, before I needed to change cover material to have something easier to work with. This book has had rigorous use and has held up well with minimal fraying.

Book Size: 5.5" x 8 3/8"

BARB'S BOOK

She is a mixed media artist that likes to work in coloured pencil, marker and ink. She requested a square format filled with a particular type of paper she likes to use. For this book I used a decorative Japanese paper with a book cloth spine cover.

Book Size: 7.5" x 7.75"
Paper type: Fabriano Artistico Hot Press White, 140 lb.

CASSIDY'S BOOK

Cassidy is a line artist and she was interested in a book that was on the larger side that she could could use for her drawings. Other than that no other requests were made. I learned from this one I should have tested out the paper with her before construction. I believe she still uses the book though it isn't ideal for the type of pens and markers she likes to work with. For this book I used a violet/pink mulberry paper on the front with book cloth covering the spine and back of the book.

Book Size: 6 5/8" x 10 7/16"
Paper type: Sommerset 175 gsm
