Urban Sketching
I started Urban Sketching sometime in 2016. I can't remember exactly how I initially found this sketching on location activity but I think it was because I was in love with the sketches in a book called How to keep a Sketchbook Journal by Claudia Nice. It started me down the path of sketching plants and landscapes which eventually lead me to finding local groups to sketch with.
The Edmonton Urban Sketchers is the group I am most active with but I have found and participated in sketch meet ups with artist Emily Chu's projects and the Sketch Around YEG group as well. Between group and solo sketching this activity has helped me activate and keep a regular sketchbook habit which was something I struggled with up until then.
Below is a selection of some of the drawings I have made over the years on location.

On-Location YEG, a book project by Emily Chu. These are my sketches from participating in this project in the summer of 2019. The church and the monkey were both chosen to be in the book she created out of this project.
#stayhomeanddrawyeg started by Emily Chu on the heels of the shutdown in March 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Sketcharound YEG. Another local sketching group. Their once a month sketch day isn't fixed so it's harder to meet up with them but I have fun when I do.
